Eastwood

William A. Wilson founded Eastwood in 1913 as one of Houston’s first “master-planned real estate communities.” Eastwood’s innovations incorporated paved streets, cement sidewalks, city water, gas, electricity, telephones, and a sewage system. A contemporary Houston Daily Post article hailed Eastwood as a “model suburb.” Residential deed restrictions outlawed businesses within Eastwood’s boundaries – and that restriction remains in force.

Wilson’s new neighborhood encompassed a park, a community church and the Eastwood School, now Dora P. Lantrip Elementary, the oldest in-use school in the Houston Independent School District.

Part of Houston’s historic East End, Eastwood is bordered to the north by Harrisburg, Sidney Street to the west, Dumble to the east, and I-45 to the south, and enjoys convenient access to Hobby Airport and the Port of Houston.
